What Happened at Terminal 2

The accused, a male of legal age, was flagged the moment he arrived from overseas. Officers moved in quickly and took him into custody without incident.

Here are the key details of the case:

  • Charge: Qualified Theft
  • Warrant issued: July 13, 2026, by the Regional Trial Court in Bogo City
  • Recommended bail: Php58,000.00
  • Place of arrest: Arrival Area, Terminal 2, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Brgy. Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City
  • Date of arrest: September 8, 2026

How the Arrest Was Handled

MCIAPS personnel informed the accused of his rights in a language he clearly understood. They also used an Alternative Recording Device (ARD) throughout the operation, following the rules set by the Supreme Court. This step helps ensure the process stays fair and properly documented.

The man remains in MCIAPS custody while authorities work on the next steps of his case.

Officials Send a Clear Message

PBGEN Dionisio B. Bartolome, Jr., Director of the PNP AVSEGROUP, made the group’s stance plain.

“Our airports are gateways, not hiding places. Those who attempt to evade the law will be met by alert and vigilant AVSEGROUP personnel,” he said.

Why This Matters for OFWs

For the many Filipinos working abroad, stories like this are a reminder that legal matters back home do not simply disappear while you are overseas. A pending warrant can catch up with you the moment you return.

If you have an unresolved case, it helps to sort it out early. A quick chat with a trusted lawyer or your local court can save you from surprises at the arrival gate. And if a loved one abroad is worried about a legal issue, encourage them to seek proper advice rather than wait.

  • Coming home should feel like a welcome, not a warning. Staying informed and handling concerns head-on is the surest way to keep it that way.
