Manila, Philippines – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, intercepted suspected illegal drugs worth ₱56.6 million at NAIA Terminal 1 on May 6, 2026. The operation led to the arrest of two Filipino passengers arriving from Cambodia.
Details of the Operation
According to a press release from the Bureau of Customs, the interdiction operation was conducted at the International Arrival Area of NAIA Terminal 1 in Pasay City. Authorities discovered approximately 8,324 grams of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as “SHABU,” concealed in two pieces of luggage. The illegal substances were hidden in improvised pouches made of carbon paper and packaging tape, further camouflaged with coffee powder, assorted coffee packs, and personal belongings.
The seized contraband, valued at ₱56,603,200, was uncovered during routine inspections by the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Commendation and Next Steps
BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno praised the efforts of the BOC-NAIA personnel and partner agencies, emphasizing the importance of border protection. He stated, “This successful interdiction reflects our strengthened border protection measures and sustained coordination with our partner agencies. In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., we remain firm in our commitment to prevent the entry of illegal drugs and ensure the safety and well-being of the Filipino people.”
The confiscated substances will be turned over to the PDEA Laboratory Service for confirmatory examination. Meanwhile, inquest proceedings are being prepared against the arrested individuals, who may face charges under Section 4, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
