55-Year-Old Filipina Street Sweeper Finishes College Degree

A mother, 55 years of age, who’s job is to clean the streets of Batangas City, graduated with a degree in Business Administration in Colegio ng Lungson ng Batangas. This is quite an inspiring story worth sharing to all our readers which shows that through hard work and determination, you can still accomplish goals you can set for yourself.

Ofelia Mondaya, a street sweeper completed her education while doing her work. This achievement is something that the family of Ofelia can be proud of. She endured many challenges that have come her way to finish her studies.

Filipina Cleans the Streets while Completing Her Degree

Despite having to study, Ofelia’s job to clean the streets of Barangay Poblacion, Batangas City did not stop. She had been doing this for 4 years and have reaped the rewards of her labor. She graduated while working, managing her family, and going to school.

She was able to complete her academic goals while working for a living. She was enrolled at Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas and took up Business Administration and was able to graduate this year. According to Ofelia, it was a dream come true to finish her studies, she expressed that this is the first step to improve their way of living.

Prior to college, Ofelia started studying last 2014 in the Department of Education. She finished the course and was given a scholarship from the locals of Batangas City at “Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas”. She also had help from her supervisor to adjust her time so she can manage her work and studies.

Although, no graduation ceremony was held due to the crisis, Ofelia’s family is very proud that her mother finished her school.

Ofelia is seen as an inspiration to many including her daughter, Crizel Mondaya, who witnessed the dedication of her mother. Crizel added that her mother had withstood the challenges she encountered, she goes out at dawn to start working and goes home once the sun has risen and did her assignments.

As a closing statement, Ofelia encourages us to achieve our goals in life. She said that we don’t need to wait and waste time as we grow older, she advised that we have to stay positive and do what’s right.
