Philippines – Filipino workers caught in the renewed fighting across the Middle East can count on continued help from the government. On July 20, 2026, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan confirmed that assistance for affected overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families will not stop, even as tensions in the region flare up again.
According to a statement from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), both agencies are working hand in hand to make sure no Filipino abroad is left without support. The DMW and OWWA laid out the range of services already in motion, from ground-level help to long-term reintegration.
Help on the Ground and the Journey Home
The government’s response covers OFWs at every stage of their situation. Affected workers may receive:
- Onsite assistance in the countries where they are based
- Repatriation support for those who need to return home
- Post-arrival and reintegration services once they land in the Philippines
So far, more than 11,000 OFWs and their dependents have been safely brought home from the Middle East. This was made possible through 126 commercial and chartered flights arranged by the DMW and OWWA — a massive coordination effort during a tense period.
A Team Effort Across Borders
Bringing thousands of Filipinos home safely takes cooperation on many fronts. The repatriation was carried out together with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Philippine Embassies, host governments, and Filipino communities in the region. This network helped locate workers, arrange travel, and keep families updated throughout the process.
Administrator Caunan stressed that the mission goes beyond one region. “Hindi ‘ho tayo titigil. ‘Yan po ang direktiba ng ating mahal na Pangulo na tuloy-tuloy pa rin po tayo sa pagbigay ng tulong sa ating mga kababayan at hindi lamang po sa Gitnang Silangan,” she said — a clear signal that the same commitment applies to Filipinos wherever they may be.
Rebuilding Life Back Home
Coming home is only the beginning. The DMW is urging returning workers to tap into the National Reintegration Network and its partner agencies, which offer practical ways to start over. Available support includes:
- Livelihood and financial assistance
- Skills training
- Job facilitation for repatriated workers and their families
