Pinay Nurse in Nevada Charged in $906M Medicare Fraud; Feds Seize Ferrari, Bulgari Necklace, and a Cagayan Beach Resort

United States – A Filipino-American nurse practitioner is at the center of one of the biggest healthcare fraud cases ever charged in the United States. Federal prosecutors say Marizel Yukee, based in Nevada, billed government health programs more than $906 million through a scheme that targeted some of the country’s most vulnerable patients.

According to a news report, authorities have already seized millions in cash, luxury cars, high-end jewelry, and a beach resort she allegedly built in the Philippines using the proceeds.

How the Alleged Scheme Worked

Prosecutors say Yukee and her co-conspirators submitted over $906 million in fraudulent claims to Medicare and TRICARE between October 2023 and April 2026. Of that amount, they received roughly $297 million in actual payments.

The fraud reportedly centered on medically unnecessary skin-graft wound-care procedures. Investigators allege these costly treatments were billed for elderly patients and even hospice patients who were terminally ill, racking up enormous claims in a short period.

What the Government Seized

Federal agents confiscated a long list of assets tied to the case. These include:

  • More than $30 million held in bank accounts
  • A $594,000 Ferrari 296 GTS
  • Seven other luxury vehicles
  • An $865,000 Bulgari necklace
  • Around $1 million in other jewelry
  • A $4.6 million beach resort in Santa Ana, Cagayan, Philippines

The Cagayan property stands out for many Filipinos, since it shows how money allegedly stolen from US taxpayers ended up funding a development back home.

Part of the Largest US HealthCare Fraud Takedown

Yukee’s case is one piece of a much bigger crackdown. US officials describe it as the largest healthcare fraud takedown in the country’s history, involving 455 defendants and roughly $6.5 billion in total alleged fraud.

She now faces several serious federal charges, including:

  • Healthcare fraud
  • Wire fraud
  • Money laundering
  • Illegal kickbacks

Still Presumed Innocent

Despite the scale of the accusations, Yukee has not been convicted of anything. She remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

For the Filipino community abroad, the case is a sharp reminder of how careers built overseas can unravel fast when the law catches up. Many OFWs work in healthcare across the US and other countries, and stories like this put a spotlight on the line between hard-earned success and serious criminal exposure.
