Philippines – A man set to fly to Hawaii found his travel plans cut short at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 after security officers uncovered a firearm component tucked inside his luggage. The July 28, 2026 discovery led to his immediate arrest and ongoing legal proceedings in Pasay City.
According to a statement from the AVSEGROUP Public Information Office, the incident began during a standard baggage screening when X-ray operators spotted something unusual inside the passenger’s bag. That single flag set off a chain of events that ended with the traveler in police custody.
What Screeners Found
A closer manual inspection confirmed the operators’ suspicions. Inside the luggage was one Glock 17 caliber 9mm upper receiver — a regulated firearm part under Philippine law.

The Charge Against Him
The passenger now faces a charge for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 10591, better known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. The law governs who may own, carry, and move firearms and their parts within the country — and it treats undocumented possession seriously.
Documentation and inquest proceedings are underway at NAIA Police Station 1. Investigators are preparing the case for filing before the Office of the City Prosecutor in Pasay City.
Authorities Stress Airport Vigilance
PBGEN Dionisio B. Bartolome Jr., Director of the PNP Aviation Security Group, pointed to the arrest as proof that airport safety measures are working.
“Mahigpit nating ipinapatupad ang umiiral na seguridad sa lahat ng ating paliparan. Ang bawat inspeksyon ay mahalagang bahagi ng ating layunin na mapigilan ang pagdadala ng mga hindi awtorisadong armas at mapanatiling ligtas ang bawat biyahero,” he said.
He added that with the help of airport authorities and law enforcement partners, they will continue to safeguard public security.
