Deportee Claims Money, Cellphone, & Jewelry Were Stolen

The video shows Montes on the floor, looking through his belongings. “Ang sabi po ng mga pulis sa Jeddah bawal po namin bitbitin kahit anong gamit, kailangan daw po namin ilagay sa aming bagahe. Kaya po sinunod namin sila (The police in Jeddah said we couldn’t hand-carry anything, we need to put them in our luggage. So we just followed them),” Montes said.

Pagdating po namin sa airport ng Pinas, nagkalat na po ang mga gamit ko… Nawala po ang cellphone ko, mga alahas, at pera, pati din po sa mga kasamahan namin (When we arrived at the Philippine airport, our belongings were scattered… My cellphone, jewelry, and money were missing, same goes for the other deportees),” he complained.

According to Montes, he and the other deportees reported the incident to Saudia Airlines. However, the airline company said that they were not liable for their passenger’s belongings. Montes expressed that they do not know what else to do, and asked President Duterte for help.

Here is the video of Andrew Montes, shared by Raffy Tulfo Supporters’ Facebook page:

In response, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) coordinated with the airline’s ground handler. Ma. Consuelo Bungag, Officer-in-Charge of the MIAA Media Affairs Department, said that MIAA authorities examined the body cameras of the ramp agents.

However, camera footage did not reveal any irregularities during the handling of the luggage. Hence, the MIAA declared on Thursday (November 29) that no irregularities took place.

The Chief Legal Officer of the Civil Aeronautics Board, Wyrlou Samodio, said that airlines are responsible for lost luggage. However, he explained that for a passenger to get compensation for lost or damaged luggage, he or she should have declared the valuables inside it in the first place.

“Sometimes, to avoid paying duties, passengers don’t declare their valuables,” Samodio explained. “Then they would complain if their jewelry, for instance, is missing. How would the airline know if it’s true, if they did not declare it?”

Meanwhile, the MIAA General Manager, Ed Monreal, reminded Montes to be careful with what he posts on social media. He also said that baseless accusations could tarnish the country’s image.

While many of us may sympathize with Montes, we cannot discount the fact that no irregularities were found in the handling of his luggage. In any case, as travelers, we should take care of our belongings at all times, and declare valuables placed in our checked-in luggage.

[VIDEO] Japanese Boss Shoves Worker’s Face in Hotpot at Office Party

The video features a group of people inside a Japanese-style restaurant, with bottles of beer and food on the table. At the centre of the table was a nabe, a dinner pot where water is boiled to cook meat and vegetables over a lit stove.

A man whose face was not shown in the video grasps the back of the head of the victim – whose face has been blurred out – and shoves it straight into the boiling water in the pot. Spectators can be heard jeering and laughing in the background.

The description on the video at the website says that the footage was taken at a year-end office party of an entertainment agency based in Tokyo back in 2015.

The clip also shows a still image of the man who had sustained extensive burn injuries on his face. The complainant revealed that the burn injuries, which resulted into extensive scarring, took over a month to heal.

This form of power harassment, which has been considered part of work culture in the country, has not been directly addressed by Japan laws. Likewise, sexual harassment regulations in the workplace are considered “toothless.”

In a 2017 study conducted by the Japanese Trade Union Confederation, 30% of the 1,000 respondents who have experienced workplace harassment shared that they had sought treatment for psychosomatic conditions, whereas 20% had resigned from their jobs.

Video Highlights OFW Parent-Child Relationships

Among the millions of OFWs worldwide, a great number are women employed as nannies or domestic workers. Many of them are mothers who find themselves taking care of other people’s kids, while bearing the pain of being away from their own children back home.

At the same time, the children of OFWs experience heartache, too. Many would assume that they are happy to receive the toys, clothes, and gifts sent by their parents. However, they are also looking for their parent’s hugs, kisses — their assuring presence in their day-to-day lives.

ACTS-OFW Representative John Bertiz has caused quite a stir on social media for a viral video controversy of him allegedly harassing an airport security officer. The social media post labels the congressman “ignorant” and accuses him of intentionally dodging airport security checks, which include taking off his footwear at the checkpoint and harassing an officer.

To this, Bertiz said that he was simply reprimanding Abdul for allegedly letting several Chinese-looking individuals escorted by NAIA staff slip through into the airport without undergoing security checks.

He further explained that he was bothered by how easily Chinese nationals with NAIA escorts can get into the airport, whereas even if he had shown Abdul his NAIA security ID, and was cleared by the X-ray machine and metal detector, he was still screened by the said officer.

Bretchie Lyn Magsayo, a Filipina nanny in Kuwait, was seen in the video with many bruises in her arms and back and what seemed like cigarette burns in several parts of her body. The video was taken in the CR after a concerned kababayan learned of the physical abuse she’s been getting from her employer who was reportedly a police official in Kuwait.

FB Video Helps Save an OFW From Abusive Employers

In Kuwait, if you are a Filipino worker, you have to be cautious when helping out a fellow OFW even if there is enough evidence of maltreatment. You can get arrested for helping out another worker escape from an abusive employer. Rescues must be executed by the right authorities only, such as the police in coordination with labor officials. That is why a lot of migrant workers in this country resort to social media and the internet to ask for help. Many of which have been heard and rescued.

Thankfully, in the case of Magsayo, Hans Leo Cacdac, OWWA’s Administrator and Arnel Ignacio, deputy administrator quickly took action and coordinated with Kuwuati officials to facilitate the rescue.

“Nandito na po ako sa Philippine Embassy ng Kuwait, maayos na po ako dito,” said Brethchie Lyn after she was rescued last Saturday.

A lot of attention is placed in this Gulf country at this time due to the numerous news of maltreatment and physical abuse that domestic helpers endure, the most horrifying of which was the story of Joanna Demafelis, a domestic helper whose dead body was found stuffed in a freezer.

Meanwhile, the deployment ban for new Filipino workers in Kuwait is still in force and a memorandum of agreement on the protection of Filipino workers in this country is still to be finalized this week.

VIDEO: Nurses Fired for Making Fun & Squashing Newborn Baby’s Head

As a parent, how would you feel if your is baby is being made fun of? Below is a shocking video of a group of nurses in Saudi Arabia filming themselves laughing while squashing the baby’s face. The nurses were said to be fired from their jobs after authorities investigated the video.

This also serves as a warning for us expat nurses and generally to everyone to please make sure we take our jobs professionally.

In a report published on Arab News, three medical professionals located in a hospital in Taif, just got themselves fired and even had their licenses revoked due to the unethical behavior they demonstrated towards a new born baby. A video of these acts was created and shared to the public through social media depicting these nurses having tasteless fun towards the newborn by squeezing and an pulling its head. This naturally caused a severe outrage not only in the medical community but also the general public.

Saudi Arabia: Nurses Forced to Leave their Jobs and Surrender Their License to Practice for Making Fun of Newborn Baby

In response to the scandal that was just created, the Ministry of Health immediately took action and conducted an investigation on these three nurses. After a couple of hours, it was decided that these medical professionals have to be fired from the hospital and that they should be banned from practicing their profession even in other healthcare facilities.

Job Openings in Saudi Arabia

In the same report, a doctor named Mohammed Al-Ghamdi who advocates proper ethical standards at a hospital in Jeddah, was very insightful on his take on these events. He believes that how the online community reacted towards this incident is quite natural since babies are incapable of defending or speaking for themselves. So others, especially the parents, will naturally be compelled to act on these babies’ behalf.

The doctor also discusses that medical professionals are considered to be at the apex among other professions; one of the noblest professions in the world and are highly sought upon by everyone.

He added: “In retrospect, people who work in the medical sector, whether it be doctors or nurses, are under heavy scrutiny from the public. People expect them to respect their careers and responsibilities. To the people, doctors and nurses are the epitome of goodness, so they aren’t allowed any slights or shortcomings; their mistakes will always be exaggerated.”

This incident truly serves as a hard lesson to everyone; not only in the medical field. One should always be act accordingly based on the ethical regulations of the professions they belong to.

Watch: Baggage Employee Caught in the Act Tampering a Passenger’s Luggage

The footage was taken last October at an airport in Thailand for a plane bound from Phuket to Singapore. The employee in the video was hired by an agency to carry out the task by transferring luggage. A security officer secretly filmed this baggage handler while he searched for items inside the bag.

The viral video was also posted in a Facebook Page which earned a lot of negative reactions from netizens. Due to some similar facial features, many Filipinos even believed that the handler is a Filipino. But regardless of the nationality, we should all be reminded to keepsafe our belongings when we travel.

This video was shared so that the public will be aware of what happens when a passenger will check-in their baggage. It’s a precautionary measure to think that even an airline staff can do this kind of act.

The video was uploaded in YouTube 5 days after the incident. According to the video’s description: the police has already arrested the criminal who had admittedly taken a bluetooth speaker which was returned back to the owner.

There have been many other reports in the past that valuables from passengers were lost without any good explanation of what happened. We’ve even shared some experience in our own Philippine airports.

This video can at least show the public and make them realize that you can be a victim given the circumstance. So the best course of action is to be extra careful and to keep your belongings carried in a smaller bag that you can carry.
