SIM Card Registration
The National Telecommunications Commission reported Thursday that more than 3 million SIM cards had been registered with the major telcos, as mandated under the Sim Card Registration Act.
NTC Deputy Commissioner Attorney John Paulo Salvahan claimed during the Laging Handa briefing that 3,319 million SIM cards had been registered as of December 28.
DITO Telecommunity Corp. received 530,424; Smart Communications received 1,019,207; and Globe Telecoms received 1,769,374.
According to Salvahan, the telcos had a huge number of consumers wanting to register their SIM cards, which hindered traffic or led Globe to shut down the service temporarily.
The DICT earlier announced that carriers have two weeks to implement adjustments to enable SIM card registration.
As of this writing, the registration portal for all telcos mentioned are now back up, and may be accessed for registration purposes.

7. What are the benefits of registering my SIM card?
There is no denying that Sim Card Registration has numerous benefits. First and foremost, it will aid the government in combating terrorism, criminality, and other illegal acts.
Law enforcement can easily discover criminals and prevent them from committing more offenses if they have access to your personal information. This is especially important in countries like ours, where mobile phone users regularly use prepaid SIM cards without registering their information with service providers or telecom companies. Here are the remaining key benefits:
Telcos and direct SIM card merchants will only sell cards to those who present a valid photo ID, proving that the SIM card belongs to the customer.
Any information registered to subscribers must be kept private unless the subscriber receives written authorization.
The names of a parent or guardian will be mentioned as consenting parties on the registration documentation for youngsters registering their SIM cards.
Telecommunications service providers will be required to give quarterly updates to their lists of recognized dealers, according to the National Telecommunications Commission.
Final Thoughts:
So there you have it! With the new SIM Card Registration Act, Filipinos can have their data protected and be assured that their privacy is respected. This new law will also help track lost or stolen phones and prevent the illegal use of SIM cards by unauthorized persons.
