In reality, several of the completed projects, such as the LRT-2 East Extension, Skyway 3 Stage 3, and Bike Lanes, are now open to the public.
Sec. Tugade and President Rodrigo Duturte viewed one of the year’s largest projects earlier in July: the Clark International Airport (CRK) Terminal 2, which is slated to open soon.
The CRK Terminal 2 aims to be “Asia’s Next Premier Gateway” with its cutting-edge features and state-of-the-art facilities.
During the event, President Duturte expressed his delight at the good news for all Filipinos, praising their hard work and dedication to providing quality public service.
“This structure before us reflects the administration’s unyielding commitment to improve the quality of life of every Filipino by providing big-ticket infrastructure projects such as this [CRK Terminal 2] that will improve connectivity, mobility, create jobs, and spur economic activity in the regions,” Duterte said.
According to Sec. Tugade, the Clark Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) is outfitted with contactless baggage handling, passenger check-ins and check-outs, and an ordering system to improve the convenience of air travel.
“I commend the DOTr and the BCDA, and all our partners in the private sector for this massive achievement. We are thankful that this major component of this administration’s ‘BUILD, BUILD, BUILD’ program is ready for the benefit of the people,” Duterte added.
Furthermore, the completion of CRK Terminal 2 can accommodate roughly 12.2 million passengers in full operation, which is estimated to quadruple the numbers from previous years’ 4.2 million passengers (before the pandemic).
First in the Country
“I am happy to be standing before you today that my dreaming is over. This is now a reality waiting to be used. This facility is filled with features, many of which had been unthinkable in the Republic of the Philippines, in the history of this country,” Tugade said.
Tugade also emphasized the numerous firsts in the country’s airport history that have altered the air-travel experience, such as gender-inclusive and PWD-friendly facilities, an advanced docking guidance system, and a Heroes Lounge for military, police officers, and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
Here are some of the world-class features provided in the CRK Terminal 2:
“This is one facility by the Build, Build, Build team that we can truly be proud of, not only as a Kapampangan but most importantly as a citizen of the country,” Tugade said.
Apart from its world-class facilities and increased capacity, CRK Terminal 2 will have a multiplier effect on the country’s economy.
According to Tugade, the project will create many jobs not just in the transportation industry, but also in the hotel and tourism businesses. He also stated that about 1,600 Filipinos were hired during the airport’s building phase.
