History – PCG Hong Kong
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong was first built as a consulate in 1947 whose leader was the former Vice Consul Emilio D. Bejasa. The consulate had a special arrangement with the American Consulate General. The consulate in Hong Kong was then conducting its business at the office of the American Consulate General at the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank Building. In August 1947, the office of the consulate was moved to a different office in the Filipino Club House in King’s Park in Kowloon. After three months, it was moved to Marina House at Queen’s Road in Hong Kong.
When the Philippine Legation in Nanking closed in 1949, as well as the Philippine consular posts in Shanghai and Amoy, the workload of the consulate grew vastly. In order to address the need for more workforce and to cater to the increasing demand, the consulate transferred to a bigger office located at No. 901 Tower Court Building, Hysan Avenue in Causeway Bay. In 1958, the consulate’s status changed to a higher level and Eduardo Rosal became the first Consul General. Until now, the consulate in Hong Kong is doing its purpose—to help Filipinos when they need it and to promote the national interest of the Philippine in China.
