QR codes were introduced by the Philippine government to verify the Philippine Identification System (Philsys) National ID for banks and other establishments.
The Philippine Service Agency partnered with 13 banks to test the use of a QR code verification system known as the PhilID QR Code Verification System PQRCVS (PhilID QR Code Verification System). This system allowed the agencies to easily identify the identity of a customer using a QR code.

This method of transferring data allows banks to store and process customer data without requiring the use of manual encoding. This method of transferring data was also tested and identified areas of improvement, ABS-CBN News reported.
Due to the growing number of Filipinos receiving their PhilIDs, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has set a target to deliver over 30 million additional ID cards by end of 2022.
According to Rene Mendoza, an assistant national statistician, there are about 62 million IDs that still need to be processed. These are among the 92 million IDs that are expected to be delivered by 2022.
He noted that the PSA is currently working on a mobile application that will allow people to store their information while the IDs are being processed. Mendoza also said that the agency is also looking at the possibility of having a downloadable digital version of the IDs.
The introduction of downloadable credentials for the national ID should help alleviate the problems faced by Filipinos who applied for the document. However, it should be carefully investigated to ensure that the data collected is secure.
