KUWAIT: An Overseas Filipino Worker in Kuwait was discovered dead in a freezer. Authorities in Kuwait found the frozen body and may have been kept for over a year.
The Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III identified the iced-body of Joanna Daniela Demafelis, born in June 24, 1988 from Iloilo City.

There are many cases we’ve heard from our fellow OFWs working abroad. Many unfortunate events happened to Filipinos working outside the country. Mostly, we hear OFWs being maltreated, some were raped, but being stored in a freezer is for a long period of time may be the most tragic news we’ve heard.
KUWAIT: Pinay’s Body Found in Freezer
According to a news report from Arab Times, the frozen body was discovered by Kuwait authorities at Al Shaab area in an apartment and was stored inside the freezer for more than a year.

The suspect, Nader Essam Assaf is currently being pursued by Kuwait’s government to make sure that justice is served. The ambassador of the Philippines Renato Pedro Villa proactively reached out to Kuwait’s authorities in pursuit to seize Nader and make sure he pays for the crimes he’s committed.
After the tragedy experienced by Joanna, the flight to Kuwait for OFWs were suspended. The purpose for this suspension is to ensure that no other Filipinos will undergo the same fate that Joanna had.
This mishap reached out to the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte and had asked the secretary of DOLE Silvestre Bello III to repatriate OFWs in Kuwait.
