The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 is set to open a new lounge dedicated exclusively to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). This was announced during a recent briefing of the Philippine House Committee on Transportation by Cesar Chiong, general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), who said that the Overseas Filipino Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) have already agreed to the project.

The lounge is set to be located on the left side of Terminal 3 when facing it and will be equipped with several amenities specifically catered to OFWs. Representatives from OWWA and MIAA met to determine the area and details of the project and are now working out an official timeline for its completion.

What is the timeline for completion of the OFW Lounge?
The representatives from OWWA and MIAA have yet to finalize an official timeline for the completion of the project but they hope to open it soon. As soon as all details have been finalized and approved by both parties, work on constructing the lounge will begin immediately.
This development has been welcomed by Zamboanga Sibugay 1st district Rep. Wilter Palma who, in a previous panel briefing, asked for a space where OFWs could rest or wait in case their flights were delayed or cancelled. This was made especially relevant following the New Year’s Day glitch at NAIA that saw over 400 international and domestic flights cancelled, causing much distress amongst passengers.
