With the growing demands of the global market, free online courses have emerged as one of the most viable options every person on the Internet can go for.
For Filipinos, this option offers higher chances of getting employed and more opportunities for career growth. And where skills and training are concerned, two of the most common questions asked are, “Is it free?” and “How long is the training?”
The good news is the Philippine government has established TESDA, a dedicated agency that offers free (online and offline) skills training to help Filipinos become more equipped for various types of jobs locally and even abroad. Most of the courses offered provide certification, which means these are highly practical and can provide better opportunities for your career growth.
Upgrade Your Skills Through TESDA’s Free Online Training
In this post, we will share some important details about TESDA’s program, the courses they offer, and the requirements to join the training, as well as the process of how you can join the training.
But first, let us take a look at what TESDA is. The Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) was established through the enactment of Republic Act No. 7796, otherwise known as the “Technical Education and Skills Development Act of 1994”.
The Act aims to encourage the full participation of and mobilize the industry, labor, local government units, and technical-vocational institutions in the skills development of the country’s human resources.
What this simply means is that TESDA offers a program for Filipinos and communities to maximize their training opportunities to become more sustainable and competitive members of the labor force.
What’s also great about TESDA is that they offer both offline (local training centers) and online training to meet the needs of all Filipinos regardless of their background, status, and educational level.
Who May Apply for TESDA Training?
As we have mentioned, TESDA aims to reach all Filipinos who wish to upgrade or learn new skills for professional or personal development.
And with the availability of the TESDA Online Program (TOP), the agency is now targeting even those who have difficulty or have limited access to training and education such as:
- out of school youth
- unemployed adults
- persons with disabilities
- local and overseas workers
What are the TESDA Courses I Can Avail?
TESDA offers two types of training courses in the Philippines: modular courses and short courses.
- Modular Courses – are technical-vocational courses designed to equip students with skills in a specific trade to become skilled Filipino workers.
- Short Courses – are special training programs designed to reinforce and further enhance the knowledge and skills of learners in preparation for the National certification examinations in his/her field of expertise.
TESDA’s training program offers an extensive set of courses that vary based on the mode of training (online/offline) provided:
